Today’s Order: Szechuan Gourmet

The Order:

With a monsoon happening outside, ordering in was an easy choice today. And with my craving for baby eggplant (sometimes you just want a nightshade), Szechuan Gourmet had to be the spot. I know that the Szechuan specialties are usually the way to go there, but the Double Cooked Pork only comes with chili leeks, so I went for the Sliced Pork with Baby Eggplant. I almost tempted AnnMarie to order something I would want too (namely the Double Cooked Pork), but she went for the General Tso’s Chicken instead. That stuff is way too sweet for me, although I think that the history of the dish is pretty fascinating.

The Meal:

Turns out that the rain has an effect on delivery times. Who knew? Seriously though, I understand being 15 minutes late, but an hour? I don’t care if New York is under water, that’s not cool.

As for the food, we had some issues there as well. AnnMarie’s General Tso’s wasn’t “hot and spicy” as advertised, despite the presence of genuine hot peppers (see above).

And while my dish more than satisfied my eggplant craving, the sauce was too thick and sweet. On the whole, Szechuan Gourmet offers great food across the board at the restaurant, but when you order it for pick up or delivery, we suggest that you stick to the Szechuan specialties.

FYI – We’re located near Bryant Park in case you want to try Szechuan Gourmet for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders!
