Today’s Order: Wild Edibles

The Order:

After last week’s big barbeque meal, AnnMarie and I decided that we’d have something lighter and healthier today. And since I just can’t bring myself to eat a salad for lunch, we compromised on fish from Wild Edibles. They have a whole selection of fish available every day that can be prepared any way you choose, but the daily specials at the top of the menu were what grabbed our attention this time. AnnMarie ordered the Blackened Catfish and I went with the Grilled Tuna. I added a side of steamed broccoli to get my greens.

The Meal:

The food arrived in a strangely small bag, but it was all there. I don’t order fish for delivery very often because I don’t think it travels well. It usually gets either dried out, overly soggy, or shows up cold because it’s just hard to keep it the right temperature and use the right packaging. But seeing as fish is their focus, Wild Edibles appears to have figured out a pretty good solution to this problem as in this case both dishes were delivered warm and moist. Maybe they can give some advice to everyone else?

Wild Edibles - Tuna
My tuna was decent, but not great. It was prepared with only fresh herbs and olive oil, so I knew it was a simple dish, but in my mind it was too simple. I actually had to use a couple of mini salt packets (very rare for me) to get some more flavor. On the plus side, it was a filling piece of fish and the broccoli got the job done.

Wild Edibles - Blackened Catfish
On the other hand, AnnMarie’s catfish was a treat. Like all good pieces of blackened fish, it had a kick to it and the lemon added a nice and fresh citrus flavor to top it off. As with the tuna, it was a well-sized piece that was enough for lunch on its own.

On the whole, despite my questioning of the tuna’s flavor, the meal was a refreshing change from our usual orders and opened up our eyes to a whole new world of lunch possibilities. We’ve learned to stop worrying and love fresh fish for delivery.

FYI – We’re located near Bryant Park in case you want to try Wild Edibles for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders!
