The Order:
I am a Kati Roll fanatic, but their Midtown location isn’t on SeamlessWeb…yet. The solution? Roomali. Like you, I was skeptical at first. How could I cheat on Kati? How could AnnMarie’s first experience with this wonderful food be somewhere else? Difficult questions, but there was a simple answer: officially, Roomali serves “Roti Rolls.” They may be basically the same thing, but I’m going to say that the name makes a difference. With that settled, we ordered two rolls each, Chicken Tikka and Paneer Tikka for me, along with Chicken Malai and Chana Pakora for AnnMarie. We also took advantage of our new eco-friendly ordering option and opted out of utensils and extra packaging.
The Meal:
Right after placing the order I noticed that delivery time was 60-75 minutes. Note to users: Pay closer attention to this number when placing your own orders. Lucky for us, the food actually arrived in about 45 minutes and it came in packaging that was about as spartan as possible. Perfect. Less perfect was that the rolls were pretty greasy and not that warm. However, we have a microwave and plates in the office, so we were able to give the rolls a fair shake. I preferred the Chicken Tikka to the Paneer Tikka, which is the opposite of my feeling at Kati Roll. This chicken was simply more filling and flavorful.
AnnMarie also preferred her chicken roll, but it wasn’t just a meat thing. It’s about flavor and the Chana Pakora was a little bland. But on the whole, AnnMarie thought that this was a wonderful introduction to the world of Indian street food, and she can’t wait to try Kati Roll.
After our order, we would definitely recommend Roomali if you’re looking for something outside the ordinary. Two rolls should fill you up and fill you up right. And until Kati Roll starts delivering in Midtown, it’s Roomali for me on a rainy day.
