Today’s Order: Crisp

The Order:

Barbeque at midnight last night meant that I needed something a little healthier for lunch this afternoon. AnnMarie was happy to oblige and since we had both heard great things about Crisp and its fresh vegetarian fare, it didn’t take long to decide where to order from.

Crisp - Full Meal
Bringing the Middle East to Midtown East, Crisp features fresh falafel, hummus, and a host of other healthy options. AnnMarie did her usual, choosing the Athenian Sandwich on whole wheat pita, while I did something completely out of the ordinary…I ordered a salad for lunch! Now I’m not saying that I don’t like salad, because I think it’s a great appetizer and often order salads with lunch or dinner. As a full meal though? Hard for me to deal with. However, the Mediterranean Salad looked very appealing, so I decided to take the plunge. Luckily it came with a pita as well so I could call an audible and make my own sandwich if I got desperate.

The Meal:

The food arrived quickly and in some most excellent packaging (see above). I’ve gotta say that Crisp has wonderful branding. Everything they sent over effectively promoted the restaurant while also being necessary and useful for the meal (napkins, containers, etc…). The sandwich box was especially cool and seemed like something that they had gotten specifically made!

Crisp - Mediterranean Salad
As for the food itself, it was also excellent. I don’t really like sun-dried tomatoes, but I love them when used to create an accompanying spread, aioli, etc… and this case was no different. With the sun-dried tomato spread holding it all together the diverse ingredients of the Mediterranean Salad (falafel, eggplant, greens, parmesan, tomatoes) worked wonderfully together. The falafel was “crisp” on the outside and soft inside, just the way it should be and the only thing I would have changed with the dish would be adding more eggplant. I dipped my pita in the salad and put some of the ingredients on it, but the salad itself was definitely more than enough for me.

Crisp - Athenian Sandwich
AnnMarie loved the presentation of her sandwich and the super fresh ingredients made for a delicious, healthy, and satisfying meal. One rookie mistake she made though was forgetting to take advantage of special instructions. She was so excited about the yogurt, onions, and Greek salad that she didn’t ask for the sandwich without tomatoes and olives. She’ll definitely remember next time!

On the whole, we both agreed that Crisp offers fresh, healthy, and flavorful food that’s a welcome change from some of the meals we, really I, eat more regularly. With a wide variety of options to choose from, including these acknowledged winners, we’ll certainly be ordering food from Crisp again…and I might even order another salad!

FYI – We’re located near Bryant Park in case you want to try Crisp for yourself or give us recommendations for future orders! Crisp has another location in Midtown West.
