Today’s Order: Salmon River

The Order:

For a special Delivery Week edition of Today’s Order, I flew solo today. Or should I say swam? That’s cause my order was a seafood-based feast from Salmon River. Their Lunch Prix-Fixe Special offers three choices each for appetizers and entrees, along with an option of dessert or drink. I figured that since it’s a fish restaurant, I should go for the Salmon River Clam Chowder and the Salmon Burger, but I have a feeling I would’ve also been pretty happy with the Szechuan Potstickers and the Charbroiled Burger. The Fresh Seasonal Berries were a no-brainer.

The Meal:

Taking advantage of the lovely weather, I ordered my lunch for pick up. After an easy stroll and a brief glimpse of how the other half eats lunch (hint: in fancy restaurants), I returned from Salmon River with even more food than I had bargained for. Seriously, I couldn’t come close to finishing it!

For starters, I decided to blur the lines between courses and just eat everything at once. The complementary nature of these dishes made this easier to do, but as long as you order correctly, you should be able to do this with most Delivery Week meals. But what about the individual components? The Clam Chowder was creamy and flavorful, with a definite bacon flavor and plenty of clams throughout the bowl. It did a good job of straddling the line between being too hearty or too thin, something that’s always a worry with a clam chowder.

Salmon River - Salmon Burger
There was actually much more food than this.I’m not sure how they make the Salmon Burger, but I was most intrigued by how it tasted like salmon without tasting like salmon. Basically, it was a very different experience from eating a piece of fish, but it still captured the essence of the fish. The wasabi aioli gave the big thick patty a nice extra kick, but I still couldn’t finish the whole thing. And that was partially because I was chowing down on some classic steakhouse-style fries (also good with the aioli!) and the fresh strawberries and cream. Loved those berries and thought they were an excellent light and refreshing part of the meal.

I highly recommend the Salmon River lunch special for both quantity and quality. Delicious food and more of it than you can handle for just $12.09 is a deal that can’t be beat. Just don’t try to get too much work done afterwards!
