Seamless Restaurant Profile: Organic Avenue in NYC
It’s the beginning of a brand new year and many of you have made the resolution to kick off and maintain a healthy new lifestyle. This is a popular resolution and many people strive to undertake it. One boutique restaurant in NYC can help you get there. Read all about Organic Avenue‘s new Seamless location in Midtown and the Founder, Denise Mari.
Seamless: Tell us a bit about Organic Avenue. When did you start the boutiques and what was the impetus for it?
Denise Mari: Organic Avenue is an idea I conceived 10 years ago during my journey toward choosing a vegan lifestyle. I was truly inspired to make positive changes and felt the need to make a healthy lifestyle easier and more accessible. I knew there was a need because I had that need. I also had tremendous motivation because innocent animals were being slaughtered. I am motivated daily by their silent suffering. I am also motivated by the truth surrounding optimal health and healing. My spiritual motivation ties it all together.
S: Explain the concept of LOVE*.
DM: During my initial days of raw food eating and cleansing, I conceived of a business that would help provide access to a LOVE* (Live. Organic. Vegan. Experience) lifestyle and wanted to make it convenient, accessible, affordable, and fun. Organic Avenue is my heart and soul’s mission to help people, animals and the environment. What is amazing is the LOVE* that Organic Avenue stands for works on issues affecting all of us.
S: People are very familiar with Organic Avenue’s juice offerings. How did you develop a food menu?
DM: Over the years I have been directing the menu creation along with various trained chefs. I love to work with skilled and creative people and add my guidance to create a product that I love and want to share and be proud of.

Organic Avenue in NYC's Midtown East
S: What’s been the biggest challenge to opening Organic Avenue in Midtown?
DM: It’s Midtown! Actually, it has been quite easy because we have a team of people dedicated to opening new stores and now that we have six of them, we have the experience to make the process less surprising. We are very happy to be serving the Midtown business and residential area and have received a warm welcome. People were ready for healthy choices.
S: What’s been the biggest surprise of transitioning to delivery and pickup?
DM: Logistics are always the biggest challenge. There are daily variables, yet we’ve been offering delivery and pickup of used bottles since early in the Organic Avenue days, so the experience and forging partnerships always helps.
S: What are some of your favorite juice and fruit combos?
DM: We all benefit from the nutritious punch that fresh fruit and vegetable juice provide. Some of my favorites are Organic Avenue Orange Juice, Green LOVE*, Ginger Lemonade and an all-time favorite is our Chocolate LOVE* smoothie.

S: Being in the food world, do you still enjoy just going home and cooking? Any favorite dishes to cook?
DM: I LOVE to prepare food at home when time allows. Generally I enjoy steamed veggies, quinoa and avocado. Most of my recipes are real simple, you just add olive oil and sea salt.
S: What’s next for you and for Organic Avenue? Any new locations, classes or programs?
DM: Besides opening many new stores in the next two years, I am working on a book and a LOVE* support program. I wish to extend more support to people wishing to transition to a healthy, LOVE*-based lifestyle.

Organic Avenue is quite impressive. I’ve been following its story for several months and just had the chance to visit their Lexington Ave. store in December. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and I loved the Ginger Tumeric juice.

It’s a trek, but we might check out Organic Ave — it’s very nice that they have a delivery option and as the business expends, it will be even nicer to have one in Hell’s Kitchen.
