Our weekly list of Seamless press mentions and restaurant write-ups

Here at Seamless, we work with thousands of restaurants and we love them all equally. But we’re only human, and when blogs and newspapers write about our restaurants, some of them temporarily become more equal than others. Here’s a sampling of where Seamless restaurants made some news last week:

Today’s Order: Hummus Kitchen in NYC

The Order:

Hummus is a “thick paste or spread made from ground chickpeas and sesame seeds, olive oil, lemon, and garlic, made originally in the Middle East.” The dish is often thought of as a side dish or perhaps an appetizer. But when I logged on to order my lunch, for some reason hummus was on my mind, and it was all I wanted. Fortunately, Hummus Kitchen was ready and willing to deliver just that.

I glazed over the wrap and salad options on the menu, and went right to the large Hummus section. With about seven different offerings of entree sized hummus, I was somewhat overwhelmed by the variety! Ultimately, I decided to order “The Hummus Kitchen” featuring a platter sampler of a few types of hummus. To add something special to my chickpea-centric lunch order, I ordered a pomegranate lemonade and a sweet treat of baklava. Once the order was placed, I counted down the minutes until it arrived to Seamless HQ.

The Meal:

Lucky for me and my empty stomach, Hummus Kitchen was on top of their delivery operation, and the food arrived on the early end of the 30-45 minute delivery window. Understandably, a hummus platter is somewhat difficult to transport and deliver, so the hummus had shifted slightly in the container and was borderline spilling over. All other items in the bag were fully intact, including the pomegranate lemonade! The lid was double taped and the cup was wrapped in a plastic baggie — perfect delivery execution for a beverage. More important than the delivery of the food, how did it all taste?

A whole lot of hummus.

A whole lot of hummus.

I was really thrilled with the meal overall. The Hummus Kitchen came with three types of hummus — Tahini, Mushroom, and Egyptian. I enjoyed all three, but found the Egyptian the most interesting. It’s hummus topped with fava beans, tahini, paprika, and some extra virgin olive oil. I also happened to find some whole chickpeas in there, which was a nice treat! Oh, and this dish is vegan. So that’s a plus if you’re into that sort of thing.

The hummus came with two warm and fresh pita breads. I chose one white and one whole wheat, so I could get the true Hummus Kitchen experience. They were both equally fluffy, chewy, and tasty. For future I would most likely order just the white because that’s what I’m into, but the whole wheat did have a nice nutty flavor to it. And if “whole wheat” makes you feel healthy, then go for it!

All-star Pomegranate Lemonade and Aphrodisiacal Baklava

All-star Pomegranate Lemonade and Aphrodisiacal Baklava

I think the most standout element of this meal was the Pomegranate Lemonade. I added it to my order on a whim, and I could not be more thrilled about that decision. It was sweet, but not overly sweet. It had a giant piece of mint in it, which was delightful. And the lemon slice was super. I highly recommend an order of this if you want to cheer up your afternoon. The addition of the Baklava was also appreciated by my taste buds and stomach. The flaky filo was filled with super soaked honey walnuts and pistachios. In the description of this dish on the menu, Hummus Kitchen adds: “Nuts about nuts? You’ll be happy to know it’s an aphrodesiac.” Well, yes. Thank you Hummus Kitchen. I am very happy to know that.

Get Seamless to SXSW!

If you’ve never heard of South By Southwest a.k.a SXSW, it’s an awesome conference and festival that takes place every spring in Austin, Texas, where the best and brightest of the music, film, and interactive (read: dorky internet folks like us!) worlds come together to exchange ideas.

This year, for the first time, Seamless is hoping that some of our most awesome executives will have opportunities to share their wisdom about growing one of the world’s largest digital food ordering companies:

Jonathan Zabusky, our CEO, wants to discuss how larger brands can partner with small and medium sized businesses so that all parties can strategically grow.

Sanjay Tiwary, our Chief Information Officer, would like to discuss some tips and tricks of incorporating mobile development insights into native websites.

Lizzy Klein, our Vice President of Product, hopes to talk about how women can become superstars within the tech sphere.

And last, but certainly not least, Ryan Scott, our VP of Marketing, plans to share how Seamless effectively we target messages toward specific consumer demographics.

But in order to make these panel discussions reality, we need your help: Panels for SXSW are selected, in part, by public voting. If you love Seamless, we’d love for you to vote for our all-star execs and the panels that they will lead. All it takes are a few clicks:

Thank you!
