Seamless Restaurant Spotlight: Georgetown Cupcake

Seamless Restaurant Spotlight: Georgetown Cupcake

Georgetown Cupcake is a recent addition to the Seamless restaurant family and to New York City! With a hit TV show on TLC, some very loyal fans, and of course some delicious cupcakes, Georgetown Cupcake has so much to offer. We sat down to chat with owners and sisters Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne about their show’s new season, the opening of their SoHo store, and of course cupcakes!

Seamless: Georgetown Cupcake is quite famous for its starring role on TLC’s “DC Cupcakes.” How did the concept for the show come about?
Katherine + Sophie: After we had been open for a year or so, a customer, who happened to be a TV producer, came in, and observed what was going on at our shop – there was a line of customers down the block, clamoring for cupcakes, and inside, we were covered in flour and frosting, arguing with each other, and running around trying to do fifty things at once. It was literally a circus in our shop at all times of day, non-stop!  He thought that it would be a great premise for a television series asked if we would be willing to let him shoot a brief video about our crazy shop.  Before we knew it, TLC had ordered a first season and it’s been a whirlwind ever since! Our next episode airs on Friday, June 8 at 10pm ET on TLC and tells the story of how we decided to expand to New York City and built our new shop at 111 Mercer St in SoHo!

S: With so many cupcakes being baked and sold today, what do you think sets Georgetown Cupcake apart?
K+S: We bake our cupcakes fresh, on-site, in small batches each day using the very best ingredients including European style butter, Valrhona cocoa, Madagascar Bourbon vanilla, and fresh fruits. So, when you order an assortment of cupcakes to be delivered to your home or office party, they have ALWAYS been baked fresh that day. We also take our presentation very seriously and frost the cupcakes perfectly and package them beautifully so that when people open a box, they can’t help but smile!

S: Georgetown Cupcakes has offered over 100 delicious flavors including Red Velvet, Salted Caramel, Lava Fudge, and  Key Lime. How do you come up with next big flavor in the rotation?
K+S:
We are constantly developing and testing new flavors to add to our menu, and let the seasons inspire us. Experimenting with new flavors is a large part of what we do at the bakery every day and when they are perfected, we add them to the menu. Every month, we add two new seasonal flavors to the menu so that there is always something new for customers to try.

S: You just opened your first store in SoHo, New York. What differences do you see between NY and DC cupcake lovers?
GC:
We have the best customers in the world, and cupcake lovers in both New York and DC are both amazing! One thing we love about our customers in New York is that they love to order cupcakes for parties, including weddings, baby showers, birthdays, and office parties. We deliver all over Manhattan and are excited that our customers think of Georgetown Cupcake when planning their celebrations!

S: Will we get to see the New York store on “DC Cupcakes”?
K+S: This week! The next episode of DC Cupcakes “DC Cupcakes Takes New York” premieres on Friday, June 8 at 10pm ET on TLC.  This episode tells the story of how we opened our New York store. In addition, we are filming many of our new episodes at our new shop in SoHo. We’re so excited to be part of such a vibrant city!

Be sure to tune in on Friday to “DC Cupcakes Takes New York”! And while you’re at it, order some cupcakes for your office… they’ll appreciate it! Note: Georgetown Cupcake is currently only available on our Corporate site. Click here to learn more about how you can get Seamless at your office.
